Up county road 39 towards Crystal Lake, to the trail head for the San Gabriel Wilderness. Started the hike at 0625 about an hour before sunrise. A nicely graded trail that was a pleasure to walk on.
Reached the top in 35 minutes from the saddle. Got on 2 meters right away and worked Bob KB6CIO (who was already chatting on frequency), Charles KM6CEM, K6BRY Bryan, and Mike W6AH on Butler Peak W6 CT-009, then Ken KN6CCW. Then onto HF…
On 20 meters, then 30 meters, with 2m FM mixed in here and there. As I was packing up the HF gear, Chris K6CMG came on 2m FM during his break at work and we had a good QSO!

This summit has spectacular views, and I highly recommend it!
Twin Peaks (the cone), Mt Waterman (flattish), and Kratka Ridge (triple summit and steep cliffs), across rugged Bear Canyon to the West and North. The ridge coming down from Twin to Triplet Rocks is very fore-shortened and is really three miles long!
Peak 4654 W6 CT-127 the lump in the center looking as inaccessible as ever. In the background are Mt Wilson, Occidental Peak, Mt Markham, San Gabriel Peak, Mt Disappointment, and further right Mt Lawlor and Strawberry Peak.
The hike is 3.5 miles each way, with 1800 feet elevation gain on the way up. Took 2h 5 min up, 1h 25 m down. A nice hike with great views!
