Calabasas Peak (W6 CT-214) 2163 ft, 20 November 2015

Another mountain in the Santa Monicas, not too far from Saddle Peak (W6 CT-035). I drove as for Saddle Peak via Pacific Coast Highway, Las Flores, Rambla Pacifico and Schueren Road, but this time turned sharp left and then down Stunt Road several miles to the start of the hike up the Calabasas Peak Motorway. There was a good place to park at a trail head just south and on the opposite side of the road. Also easy access from the 101 Freeway, but I preferred the coast route.

Started early at 0600 before dawn. The road is well graded but steep. It is about 900 feet rise in 1.7 miles which I felt was too steep for the bike, since the average grade is 10% or so. The walk was short enough that I wouldn’t need a bike to ride down!

Followed a use trail to the summit for the last quarter mile, the top is brushy but there is a post there to which I attached the mast

First on 2m, could hear Charles KM6CEM sometimes but he could not hear me. He was having a problem with his radio. Finally towards the end of the activation we had a QSO when he got one of his radios working, and also worked Mike N6MKW summit to summit on Hoyt Mountain W6 CT-146

The geology here is very scenic
